The Brinshore Wall Sconce started from the shell wind chimes nailed to the posts of old beach house porches, a piece of driftwood with long strings of small white shells tied underneath. When the wind came in off the water, the strands swayed and clicked against the weathered wood behind them. We kept that picture: the old post on the wall, the short branch reaching out from it, and the loose strands of shells hanging below, some short and some long. Lit, the bulb glows from inside the cluster, and the light comes through the thin shells and between the strands.
The strands are made from natural shells and the backplate, arm and holder from solid wood. The size, shape and color of each shell, and the grain and tone of the wood, differ on every sconce, so no two look exactly the same.
