The Taverton Table Lamp started from the old clay oil jars left standing in a Mediterranean farmyard, their sides scored by the potter's fingers and weathered over years into patches of rust, lime and soot. We kept the jar's full shoulders and narrow neck, and let the surface stay uneven, with its vertical ridges and patchy color. A plain fabric shade sits on top like a cloth tossed over the jar to keep out the dust. Lit, the shade glows soft and even above the rough clay.
Each base is made by hand, so the ridges, color patches and glaze differ on every lamp. No two look exactly the same, and small variations from the photos are part of the piece.
