The Quenley Pendant Lamp started from two cloth-covered boxes stacked on a shelf in a sewing room, the smaller one set squarely on top of the larger. Over the years their sides had been stitched with leftover scraps: a few squiggles, some dots, small blocks of red and rust and black, a patch of checks. We kept the stacked boxes and the loose, unplanned stitching, and hung them from a single thin rod. Lit, the cloth glows from inside and every stitched shape shows up clearly against it.
