The Calmere Pendant Lamp started from the stone lanterns in old Japanese gardens, where a wide, flat stone roof sits over a small light and keeps the rain off it. We kept that low, broad roof and turned it into the shade, cut from stone and left with its natural pores. Below it hangs a soft rounded glow in place of the lantern's flame, and a short band of metal holds the two together. Lit, the stone stays dark above while the light falls gently onto whatever sits below.
