The Elvanto Floor Lamp started from old brass orreries and the ringed planets in a night-sky atlas, a pale sphere circled by a single thin band. We covered a round globe in small pieces of natural shell and set a slim ring around its middle, then hung it from a tall arm that curves over at the top like the neck of a swan. The whole lamp rises from a round marble base. Lit, the shell globe glows with a soft, mottled light, like the moon on a clear evening.
