Alessi Kastor Pencil Sharpener
Chrome-plated zamak pencil sharpener in a sculptural beaver form, designed by Rodrigo Torres
The Alessi Kastor Pencil Sharpener turns a basic desk tool into one of Rodrigo Torres' most playful metal objects. Its chrome-plated zamak body is shaped like a beaver, with the sharpening opening integrated into the form so the function stays clear without interrupting the sculpture.

A Beaver Built Around the Function
Rodrigo Torres shaped Kastor around the silhouette of a beaver, using the animal's compact body and textured tail to give the sharpener its personality. The chrome-plated surface makes the form feel substantial and polished rather than toy-like.
The sharpening mechanism is integrated directly into the body, so the object reads immediately as both a desk tool and a small piece of industrial design.

From Our Founder
"Kastor is exactly the kind of Alessi object that makes a desk more interesting without becoming a novelty. It feels solid in the hand, works as a real sharpener, and the beaver form gives it just enough personality to keep it out in view."
