The Clone Prawn is Pro Lure's prawn imitation, and the detail on it is the point: segmented body, legs, feelers and eyes all moulded in, so at rest it reads as the real thing rather than a lure shaped vaguely like one. At 75mm it sits in the middle of the range, big enough to interest a jack or a flathead and small enough that bream and whiting will still commit.
It is moulded from Pro Lure's X-Tough 12X plastic, which is what lets a bait this finely detailed survive more than a couple of fish, and every colour is UV enhanced so it stays visible in dirty water and low light. The body is designed to be rigged whichever way the situation asks for: forwards on a jig head, backwards for a prawn-fleeing action, weedless through structure, weightless over the shallows, or on a hidden weight.
Fish it slowly. Subtle twitches and long pauses around pylons, jetties, pontoons, bridges, rock walls and oyster racks is where it does its best work, and the same retrieve across flats and weed beds accounts for plenty of fish. Targets include but are not limited to bream, bass, whiting, flathead, mulloway, mangrove jack and barramundi.
