📅 Wednesday 24th September, 2.30pm

Step into fiber craft history and creativity with this special cyanotype workshop at the remarkable Forge Mill Needle Museum in Redditch, a place that was once the global center of the needle-making industry.

A cyanotype workshop is a hands-on, creative session where you’ll learn how to make striking blue-and-white prints using one of the earliest forms of photography. This 19th-century process uses sunlight to develop images on paper, resulting in beautiful blue and white designs.

In this workshop, you’ll create your own artwork inspired by the museum’s rich textile heritage. We’ll be printing with needles, threads, scissors, yarn, and foraged or pressed flowers – weaving together the story of Victorian craft and the beauty of the natural world. You’ll watch as your designs transform into vivid, permanent prints you can take home and treasure.

What to Expect:

  • An introduction to the history and magic of cyanotype, the Victorian photographic process
  • Demonstration of how to make a cyanotype print from start to finish
  • Time to experiment and create your own designs with guidance and encouragement
  • All materials provided – you’ll leave with your own unique cyanotype artworks
  • Welcome to bring photo negatives, stencils, textiles or small flowers to print

Who It’s For:
This workshop is beginner-friendly, relaxing, and open to all – whether you’re a curious craft lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a mindful, creative experience.

 Why Here?
Forge Mill Needle Museum is a one-of-a-kind venue. In Victorian times, Redditch produced 90% of the world’s needles, and the museum tells this fascinating and sometimes gritty story of needle making. You’ll get to make your prints surrounded by historic needle-making machinery, the only remaining water-powered scouring mill in the world, and exhibitions celebrating the art of sewing and textiles. It’s the perfect place to explore a craft that brings together heritage, photography, and creativity.
