Press the button and the fur lets go.
The problem with a pin brush is never the brushing. It is the minute afterward, picking a mat of hair out of the pins with your fingers.
The pins on this one retract into the head. Press the button, they pull back, the whole collected mat lifts off in one piece and goes in the bin. Then they come back out and you carry on.
The pins are bent at the tip, so they pull loose undercoat without dragging on skin. Short-haired or long-haired, it is the same motion.
On how hard to pressLet the weight of the brush do it. Pressing down harder doesn't collect more hair, it just presses the pin tips into the skin, and that is how a cat learns to leave the room when the brush comes out.

Care
Press the release, lift the mat of hair off, and it is clean. No picking at the pins.
Wipe the head with a damp cloth and let it dry fully before the next use.
Don't put it in the dishwasher. Heat warps the retraction mechanism.
From the founder
I bought one of these years before we sold them, for the button alone. It is the difference between brushing the cat and dreading brushing the cat.
