A hole instead of a blade, so you can see where the cut lands.

Most nail clippers hide the nail behind the blade at the moment you squeeze. That is why people cut into the quick, and why one bad experience turns into a pet who won't give you a paw again.

This one has a semicircular opening in the head. The nail goes through it, you can see how much is sitting past the edge, and only that much gets cut.

The handles are sculpted rather than straight, so the grip stays steady on a small paw. Steel blades, and a pivot screw that keeps the action firm rather than loose.

On the quickOn pale nails the quick is the pink part, and you stop well short of it. On dark nails you can't see it at all, so take very small slices and stop as soon as the cut surface looks chalky and pale gray. If you do nick it, styptic powder stops it quickly, and it is worth having a pot before you start rather than after.

Care

After each use

Wipe the blades dry. Nail dust left on steel dulls the edge over time.

Keeping it sharp

A drop of light oil at the pivot once in a while keeps the action smooth.

Storing

Somewhere dry. Not loose in a drawer with the rest of the grooming kit.

From the founder

The visible aperture is the entire reason this is in the catalog. It is the difference between confidence and guessing.
