Vintage military canteen with cover.
The Manufacturer: The stamping U.S. AGM Co. 1918 stands for the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They were one of a few domestic contractors hired by the Quartermaster Corps during World War I to scale up field gear production for the war effort.
Dating: Prior to 1918, U.S. military canteens were typically not stamped with production dates or manufacturer logos. The contract overhaul in 1918 mandated these stamps on the back concave area or the bottom.
Design Features: This is a two-piece aluminum construction with a distinct welded vertical seam down the sides. It features an aluminum screw type cap with chain attachment.
The Canvas Cover: The accompanying dismounted canvas carrier is made of tan canvas and features dual front snap fasteners and a belt attachment wire.
Great collector piece.
