Design: Thunder Maker
Artist: Jessie Everson (Kwakwaka’wakw / Pentl’ach / K’omoks)
The Thunder Maker privacy screen, designed by Jessie Everson, depicts the Thunderbird, Kwankwankwalage, a supernatural bird of immense power. In Northwest Coast traditions, the Thunderbird can shoot lightning from its eyes and create thunder with the flap of its wings. This bold design captures that energy and presence, embodying protection, transformation, and the unrelenting power of nature.
Whether displayed as a privacy screen or a standalone art piece, Thunder Maker commands attention. Outdoors, it offers seclusion while casting dramatic shadows that shift with the daylight, echoing the Thunderbird’s role as a guardian of the skies. Indoors, it stands as a striking statement of cultural strength, connection to the land, and the enduring force of spirit beings.
