Cachalot in Dark Gray is a rechargeable portable lamp by Ambientec, designed by Yoshiki Matsuyama. Inspired by the sperm whale, its smoothly curved acrylic shade brings a sculptural presence to the room by day and a soft, warm glow after dark.
The light follows the flowing lines of the shade, creating a quiet focal point for an evening at home. Place it nearby as you wind down, or use it on a table to bring gentle illumination to the space around you.
The dark gray shade is made from high-purity acrylic resin. The base combines zinc alloy, aluminum, and silicone rubber with a copper-plated finish. A specially developed LED provides warm light at a color temperature of 2000 K.
Cachalot offers different brightness settings depending on how it is powered:
USB charging takes approximately 3 hours. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated at 3.7 V / 190 mAh.
The protection rating is equivalent to IP43: protection against solid objects 1 mm or larger and water spray up to 60 degrees from vertical. This is limited splash protection, not protection against powerful water jets or immersion. The LED module and charging stand are not waterproof; keep them dry.
Founded in 2009 by Yoshinori Kuno, Ambientec brings precision engineering from professional underwater photography to portable lighting. The company combines high-quality components with refined design, creating rechargeable lamps designed for lasting use.
