A strong red barn rises against a low, heavy sky on Hough Road. Its metal roof catches what little light the day offers, while the silo stands quietly behind it. In the foreground, dry grasses and a thin scattering of snow mark the turn of the season — the land already settling into winter’s stillness.  houghThe structures do not soften in this light. They hold their color and their form with quiet insistence, as if the cold has only made them more themselves.

Hough Road Reds is an original from the MI Eye on the Thumb Collection: Barn Series and was taken on December 3, 2019.
