I found this vintage 1926 woodblock print of an Scope Owl a while ago and was so stuck by its haunting beauty. It was created by the Japanese artist Koson Ohara. In Japan, owls represent luck and protection rather than wisdom or spookiness as they do in the West.
Certainly, you can enjoy this haunting image in both ways.
