Charlene Richard (1947–1959) Servant of God

This drawing is a quiet tribute to Charlene Richard, the “Little Cajun Saint” of Louisiana. Charlene lived a short life marked not by spectacle, but by extraordinary interior strength, humility, and love. During her illness, she offered her suffering for others, becoming a source of peace and hope to nurses, doctors, family members, and all who crossed her path. Rendered in raw cross-hatching and notebook lines, this piece reflects the simplicity of Charlene’s life and the depth of her spirit. There is no attempt to idealize or elevate—only to listen. To sit with her presence. To honor the quiet power of a young girl who carried grace without asking to be seen. This work was created not as a declaration, but as an act of reverence. Some lives leave behind more than stories—they leave behind light. Charlene Richard is one of them.
