No shock, no static. This collar has two modes — beep and vibration — and five sensitivity levels. Nothing about it is designed to hurt or punish your dog.
The sensor picks up the vibration of your dog's own bark at the throat rather than listening to the room, which makes a dog barking next door or a television much less likely to set it off than a sound-only collar. It is not infallible, and the higher sensitivity settings make a false trigger more likely, so start low.
The first bark does not trigger anything — it is a warning. If a second bark follows within 30 seconds, the vibration triggers, and the sequence continues at intervals of up to 30 seconds. If your dog stops, or the next bark is more than 30 seconds later, the sequence resets. If the collar is triggered seven times within one minute it cools off automatically for two minutes.
A built-in 480mAh battery, quoted at up to two weeks of use, recharging over USB in up to two hours. It is built for rain and wet walks but not for going underwater, so take it off before your dog swims or has a bath.
The strap is adjustable across a wide range of neck sizes. The maker does not publish a weight or neck range for this model, and we would rather tell you that than print a figure we cannot stand behind — so measure your dog's neck, and send us the measurement if you would like us to check it against the collar we have here before you order. Fit it snugly enough that the sensor stays in contact with the throat — a loose collar is the most common reason one of these seems not to work.
A bark collar interrupts a bark that is already happening. It does not teach your dog what to do instead, so it works alongside consistent reward-based training rather than in place of it. Keep continuous wear under 12 hours, and check your dog's neck and the sensor weekly.
One important exception. A dog who barks or panics because they have been left alone, or who is frightened of fireworks or thunder, is in distress rather than misbehaving. A collar adds something unpleasant to a situation the dog already cannot escape. Speak to your vet or a qualified behaviourist before buying any equipment for either.
