Patriotic decor doesn't have to mean plastic flags and dollar-store bunting. These crochet gnomes bring serious handmade charm to your summer lineup — whether he's standing guard on a tiered tray, perched beside your Fourth of July centerpiece, or holding down the mantel through Memorial Day.

They're small, quick to make, and that striped top hat is the easiest showstopper you'll ever make. This pattern works up in just a couple of hours, so you can make one for every porch step — or one for every person at the cookout.
