The full-length YKK Vislon zip seals everything in, and 250g of high-loft recycled insulation wraps their back and belly in real warmth - the articulated StormSleeves stretch with every stride so nothing slows them down, and the waterproof shell keeps the rain and mud-splash out. It layers over most harnesses and a leash portal at the chest and back gives easy access to attach their lead.

What is the key difference between the Powder Hound Vest and the Jacket?
It comes down to sleeves. The Powder Hound Vest is sleeveless - a great all-rounder for most dogs in cold, wet weather. The Jacket adds full-length coverage via the articulated StormSleeves, shielding legs and chest from mud-splashes and freezing puddles. The back and belly are insulated; the legs and side body panels aren't. If you're regularly out in serious winter weather, walking muddy trails, or your dog's belly and legs take a battering on every walk, the Jacket is the right step up from the Vest. Will my dog's fur get caught in the zip?
No - the Jacket has a built-in fabric guard that runs the full length of the inside of the zip, creating a barrier between the metal teeth and your dog's coat. No snagging, no pinching, even when you're zipping up in a hurry with muddy hands in the dark.
How does the full-length zip work when wearing a harness underneath?
Put the harness on first, then layer the jacket over the top and zip from chest to tail. The leash portals on both chest and back provide access so you can attach the lead even when the coat is worn and fastened.
Is a 10,000mm waterproof rating enough for heavy UK downpours?
More than enough - and it goes beyond rain. A 10,000mm rating means the shell can handle sustained heavy downpours without letting moisture through, and the PFAS-free PU finish and Bemis seam tape seal the seams too. It's also built for snow, which sits against fabric and keeps applying pressure as it melts. For a typical UK winter walk, your dog will stay dry throughout.
How do I maintain the waterproofing on the Powder Hound Jacket over time?
Cold wash, gentle cycle, mild detergent - avoid standard detergents, which can strip the waterproof coating over time. Hang to dry; don't bleach, iron, or dry clean. When the DWR finish starts to degrade and the fabric stops beading water, Ruffwear recommend Nikwax Tech Wash and TX.Direct to restore it.
