Description

The cabbage, stalky and wrinkled, with its flattened shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of a Portugal that Bordallo so often satirized. This was a clever way to honor it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables where, otherwise, it would never have been invited.
