A quiet walk through Edinburgh takes a sinister turn in Grim Passage. Beneath a full moon, a lone figure makes his way down a rain-slicked street surrounded by glowing lamps and brilliant autumn foliage. High above the city sits Edinburgh Castle, while behind the unsuspecting traveler, his ordinary shadow becomes the unmistakable form of the Grim Reaper and his scythe.

Perched on Castle Rock in Edinburgh, Scotland, Edinburgh Castle has watched over the city for centuries, serving as a royal residence, military stronghold, and one of Scotland’s most important historic landmarks. The Grim Reaper isn’t tied to one specific Edinburgh legend, but the centuries-old European personification of death feels right at home among the city’s medieval streets, old graveyards, and famously dark folklore.
