Dead stick describes an aircraft landing with the engine stopped and no power. Its exact origin is uncertain, popularly linked to a stopped propeller becoming a motionless stick of wood. The tee prints a propeller stopped dead against a faint disc of light, blades still, with the line flying it down with the engine stopped beneath it.
