Highly reviewed and acclaimed, Atlas Athlete Hiking Camera Backpack was awarded  the Carryology "camera bag of the year". After more than 5 years, the Athlete is getting an update including new fabrics, colorways and a slightly deeper and longer Origami Camera Core.

Since 2018, the Atlas Athlete Pack Hiking Camera Backpack has arguably ranked inside the top Hiking Camera Backpacks planet. The new 2026 GEN2a Athlete Packs are now on the way and you can reserve one today!

First, what's up with the versioning, why GEN2a vs. GEN3?

That's a great question. At Atlas we define our versions based on the camera gear they carry, not the updates we make. In 2021 we released the GEN2 Athlete Packs Hiking Camera Backpack to address the size and weight of full frame mirrorless camera gear, the same gear we all use today!

Said another way, the GEN2 and GEN2a Athlete Packs are fundamentally the same product just make from different fabrics.  The yellow, gray and black fabrics no longer exist.  Today there are new blends that provide for better water protection and are made from recycled waste and can be recycled again.
