  • Active constituents: cetrimide 1mg/mL and diethyltoluamide (DEET) 40mg/mL
  • Purple dye: shows exactly where the spray has been applied
  • For all animals: Virbac lists it as suitable for domestic pets and farm animals
  • Trigger spray: 500mL bottle, sprayed from 15–20cm away

Cetrigen is Virbac's purple antibacterial wound spray for horses, livestock and household pets. It also comes as a 100g aerosol; the 500mL trigger bottle is the larger pack.

The spray combines cetrimide, an antiseptic, with diethyltoluamide (DEET), an insect repellent, in a purple-dyed liquid so you can see the full area covered. It is a registered veterinary product; the uses below are those Virbac states for it, and it should be used only as the label directs.

Label uses (from Virbac)

  • "Contains antiseptic to treat cuts, scrapes and superficial wounds and protect wounds from infection"
  • "DEET a powerful insecticide repels insects, protecting wounds from insect-associated damage"
  • "Helps to control fly strike"

Directions

Spray onto the affected area, holding the pack 15–20cm away. Spray lightly over the entire affected area and wipe away any run-off. Avoid excessive run-off from the wound site.

Precautions and storage

Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes. Discontinue use if skin irritation occurs. Store below 30°C. Always read the label before use.

For deep, large, bleeding or infected wounds, or any wound that is not healing, contact your vet.
