Higher performance than the Essential system for louder airborne noise — dual 10kg MLV layers and dual acoustic plasterboard combine to deliver significantly more mass than single-layer direct-bonded systems
Two layers of 10kg MLV for dense mass — bonded directly to the existing wall with staggered joints, adding substantial mass to help reduce louder airborne noise including voices, TV at higher volume, and general neighbour noise
Two layers of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard — applied over the MLV with staggered joints to further increase mass and rigidity, improving overall sound reduction and providing a finish-ready surface
Direct-bonded system — no frame or fixings required — the system is bonded directly to the existing plastered stud wall using contact adhesive, keeping the build-up slim relative to the performance level
Suitable for existing plastered stud walls — designed to be applied to an existing sound, plastered stud wall surface without structural alteration
DIY-friendly installation — no specialist tools or frame construction required; suitable for competent DIYers comfortable with plasterboard work
Built-in 5% waste allowance — calculator quantities include a 5% overage to reduce the risk of under-ordering on site
Important Notes
This system is designed to be fixed to an existing plastered stud wall
It is intended primarily for airborne sound reduction
Sealant quantities are an approximation only and should be treated as a guide
The calculator is provided as a guide only, and final quantities should always be checked before ordering
Electrical sockets and switches should only be removed and reinstated by a qualified electrician
Installation Summary
Installation involves:
Preparing the wall so it is clean, dry, sound, and free from defects
Bonding the first layer of 10kg MLV directly to the wall using contact adhesive
Sealing joints as required and applying Jointing Tape
Installing the second layer of 10kg MLV, staggering joints where possible
Installing the first layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard (maintaining a small perimeter gap)
Sealing perimeter gaps with AC95 Acoustic Sealant
Installing the second layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard, staggering joints where possible
Applying a final perimeter seal before finishing
The completed wall can then be skimmed or tape and jointed ready for decoration.
