  • Good for: graduation, leaving home, a gap year, a big trip, a new path nobody else understands
  • Gift for: a graduate heading out, a traveler, a sailor or boat owner, someone choosing their own road
  • Finishes: Antique Silver (brass alloy), Antique Bronze (brass alloy)
  • Size: 39 mm, about 1 oz, die struck in the USA

The meaning

Sooner or later everyone gets advice about which way to go. The front of this coin gives the one rule that matters: follow your own compass. Other people's maps were drawn for their trip.

The back is for the uncertain stretch after the decision: trust your journey, embrace your path. Some of the best routes only make sense looking back.

The design

The front shows a bearded pirate captain at the ship's wheel, a hook for one hand and a skull and crossbones flag flying behind him. The back is a detailed compass rose, its points running out to the rim, with an anchor and a W for west at the edge.

On good days and hard days

  • On good days, it celebrates the road you chose, even when it looked strange to everyone else.
  • On hard days, when you feel lost or second guess your direction, it brings you back to your own compass: trust your journey, embrace your path.

Carry it

It fits a wallet, a backpack or a pocket for the road. One customer called it an outstanding medallion with excellent weight and detail; another simply says it is so awesome they love it.

Give it

It is our pick for a graduate leaving home, and it suits anyone setting off on a big trip or a new path. One customer gave it to their cousin for his birthday, and wrote that he cherishes it. It also makes a good gift for sailors and boat owners.

Specs

  • Diameter: 1.54 in (39 mm), about the size of a silver dollar
  • Thickness: 2.7 mm
  • Weight: about 1 oz (28 g)
  • Material: brass alloy (Antique Silver, Antique Bronze)
  • Made: die struck, minted in the USA
  • Each coin is antiqued with a special patina so it looks like it has already been in circulation. The patina never settles the same way twice, so no two coins look exactly alike. Small variations in color and shading are normal, and they are what make your coin one of a kind.
