About the Stone
Obsidian is volcanic glass — lava cooled too fast to crystallise, with no crystal structure at all (Mohs about 5–5.5). The rainbow is real optics, not colour: nanoscale layers of mineral inclusions align in bands within the glass and produce iridescence by thin-film interference. It only shows when a piece is cut and polished parallel to those layers, which is why rainbow obsidian is always worked rather than sold raw — hidden bands, revealed by careful work. It is the only obsidian in the range at the Heart.
Care
Softer than quartz, so it scratches, and it chips to a very sharp edge — store it apart from harder stones and check any chipped piece before handling. Water-safe; warm water and a soft cloth. Cleanse it in moonlight.
