This tropical toucan sits inside a dense pattern of oversized leaves and bright blooms, its plumage picked out in saturated colour. Karen Menzenbach paints with watercolour, acrylic, and gouache before scanning and digitising each piece, a process that keeps the loose, painterly brushwork intact while sharpening the graphic design layout for print. The toucan's beak and eye are rendered with a confident, almost pattern-like repetition that echoes the botanical illustration tradition. Layered foliage in multiple greens gives the piece real depth, while the bird itself stays the clear focal point of the composition.

As a fine art print, the fine linework in the feathers and leaves stays crisp, keeping every pattern detail sharp and clear, so the botanical illustration style holds its strength whether the piece hangs close up or across a room.
