WHAT WE LOVE:
The IWC Pilot's Watch Automatic 36 makes the case that the ideal size for a daily-wear pilot's watch is one that fits comfortably under a shirt cuff, reads immediately in any light condition, and doesn't announce itself across a room. At 36mm × 10.5mm, the IW324010 is among the slimmest and most compact pilot's watches in IWC's current range — with the five-link stainless steel bracelet, it reads as an object of considerable refinement rather than a reduced version of something larger.
The pilot's watch design language is present in full: the matte black dial, the large Arabic numerals, the triangle/dot 12 o'clock marker, the luminous hour hand, and the IWC soft-iron inner cage that provides anti-magnetic protection against low-frequency fields that would disrupt a conventional balance wheel. The domed sapphire crystal is secured against the pressure changes encountered in low-altitude flight, and the case maintains 60 metres of water resistance through the push-pull crown. The five-link bracelet — polished and brushed links alternating in the classic IWC pilot's bracelet format.
