Orion 910 Deep-Scan Moisture Readings for Thick Wood Stock

Orion 910 pinless wood moisture meter reads 0.75 in (19 mm) into the board without leaving pin holes. Its fixed depth suits thick hardwood flooring, lumber and cabinet stock. The wood moisture content range is 4.0% to 32.0%, with slight variation by species setting. With the rubber boot on, it measures 5.75 x 3.0 x 1.0 in and weighs 7.2 oz.

Orion 910 Fixed-Depth Scanning and Field Calibration

The fixed scan depth measures wood moisture below the surface. Switch to relative mode to check panels and drywall on the same job. The operating range is 32°F to 110°F. The meter shuts off after 60 seconds to conserve the 9V battery.

  • Scan Below the Surface — the sensor reads 0.75 in deep across a 2.0 x 2.5 in scanning area to check moisture beneath a dry surface.
  • Check Finished Wood Without Pin Holes — pinless, non-invasive readings leave prefinished flooring and cabinet faces unmarked.
  • Calibrate Where You Work — use the paired On-Demand Calibrator in the kit to recalibrate the meter without sending it back.
  • Hold the Reading — one press of the hold button locks the reading on the adjustable backlit display so you can read it after lifting the meter.
  • Check Drywall and Panels — relative mode reads drywall, plywood, OSB and MDF on a 0-100 scale.
  • No Temperature Correction Needed — the sensing method requires no correction for wood or ambient temperature.

Orion 910 Applications in Flooring, Lumber and Cabinet Shops

Hardwood flooring installers use the Orion 910 pinless wood moisture meter to check boards before acclimation sign-off in homes and commercial interiors. Cabinet makers and furniture shops can scan solid stock without marking faces that will take a finish. Lumber buyers can check a stack board by board without driving and pulling pins. After a leak, restoration contractors and building inspectors can use relative mode to compare wet and dry areas of drywall, plywood, OSB and MDF. Relative readings are comparisons, not moisture content percentages. Species settings span a specific gravity range of 0.20 to 1.0 SG. The booklet and flooring reference card in the case explain which setting to use.
